A Government Putting Farmers Under Stress

Jangareddygudem (West Godavari dist): Reiterating that Chandrababu Naidu has been ignoring the interests of the farmers and has been pushing them into distress, Leader of Opposition YS Jagan has said that such people should be rejected to ushering in credibility in politics.

Tobacco farmers are in distress and this year too they are facing hardships with the faulty promises of the government, he said while addressing the farmers here on Wednesday. The Chief Minister is busy in touring foreign nations ignoring the local issues, more so those of the farmers who have been pushed into a debt trap as he failed to fulfill his poll promise of loan waiver. Many farmers have become defaulters as they did not repay the loans believing Chandrababu Naidu.

With no fresh loans coming up and the state going ahead with its anti-farmer policies the situation has become precarious as they are not getting the Minimum Support Price as well, he said.
Three tobacco farmers have committed suicides in the district due to indebtedness and it is not just tobacco but also paddy and other farmers too are in distress, he said.
Though monsoon has set in the government did not begin buying tobacco which shows the state of affairs, he said. During YSR regime tobacco farmers were happy while the situation has been otherwise now, he said.
