AP Port City's Brand Image Wanes in TDP rule

One of the biggest tourist destination in the country and Port City in Andhra Pradesh  - Visakhapatnam's  brand image is on the wane as the TDP government's repeated attempts to promote the most happening city a hub of  Beach festivals, Ramp walks and Fashion Shows brought disrepute.

Ever Since Chandrababu Naidu assumed office,  the ruling party leaders targeted to exploit the natural beauty of Visakhapatnam by organising  liquor parties and beach festivals.  The CM  had taken decision to open liquor parlors across Vizag beaches which invited big criticism from all women organisations including YSR Congress Party women wing.

Despite the women community opposed fashion shows,  the government was encouraging such programmes on the pretext of promotion of world tourism. The corporate companies in the hospitality business were given free hand to exploit the port city's serene beauty and  promote foreign culture.

At one side Visakhapatnam has not been attracting any foreign investments and the other side the beach festivals brought down the image of the port city as the women community opposed such activities.  Chandrababu conducted partnership summits but failed to get desirable results.

YSRCP Demands Disqualification Of Turncoat MLAs

The Opposition YSRCP MLAs have decided to boycott the Assembly Sessions, beginning November 10 over the Speaker's failure to disqualify 20 MLAs of YSRCP, who defected to the TDP without resigning their posts. As many as four of them are serving as ministers in the Government even while continuing as the Opposition MLAs.

YSR Congress Legislature Party, which met on Thursday, has said that it would attend the assembly sessions only if the 21 turncoat MLAs are disqualified and four ministers removed. The party said the State Government has thrown all democratic norms and legislative conventions to winds by engineering defections. As many as 21 MLAs were lured into the ruling party in the presence of Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu and at his official residence. Yet, all these MLAs are still being shown as YSRCP MLAs and are seated along with the Opposition MLAs.

"This is travesty of democracy and the Speaker is deliberately deferring the decision on the fate of the defectors," said senior party leader and MLA Peddireddy Ramachandra Reddy. "We can't sit (in the Assembly) with our heads bowed when a mockery is being made of democracy. Hence, we have decided to boycott the Assembly session, that is expected to begin on November 10," he said.

"A latest bulletin issued by the Assembly said the YSRC has 66 MLAs. Even four ministers were listed as members of YSRC. Are we part of a coalition government?" Ramachandra Reddy wondered.

The party felt that the Assembly sessions should have been held in August, but the Government is holding the sessions in November to offset the prestigious Padayatra of YS Jagan from November 6.

The party also said that the ruling party has been using the Assembly sessions only to vilify YS Jagan and attack the Opposition party. The TDP has no faith in legislative decorum and democracy. "During the last three years, the assembly was in session for just 80 days. while during the reign of YS Rajasekhara Reddy, the assembly was in session for over 150 days," Peddireddy pointed out. He said the party has exhausted all options to make the speaker see reason and has hence decided to boycott the assembly session.

Virtually, the scheme was disbanded in the whole Andhra Pradesh.  The plights of the poor intensified and they faced similar problems encountered before 2004 in Chandrababu rule in United Andhra Pradesh.

During farmer Chief Minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy's regime, all migrants returned to their native places as the employment guarantee programme was enforced in true spirit.  The employment act mandated every enrolled worker should be provided job within 15 days. Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has been strong proponent of privatization of education system from primary to university level ever since he assumed CM office in 2014.

At one side,  the Chief Minister has put a blanket ban on recruitment in universities and other government educational institutions and the other side the corporate educational institutions were given freedom to take over existing education sector run by the government at the grassroots level.

The government was filling vacant posts in colleges  only on contract basis leaving the unemployed youth in deep depression. Due to lack of adequate staff and basic infrastructure,  many government institutions were already closed down.

In some cases, government funds were diverted to corporate institutions and the properties were given away to private players on the pretext of promoting quality education in the villages.
